Sungmin Cho, a violinist from Seoul, graduated from Seoul Arts High School, is currently studying with Prof. David Chan at The Juilliard School, where he also received his bachelor’s degree under Prof. Ronald Copes and Prof. Joseph Lin in 2024.
He had his solo concert debut under the auspices of the Kumho Prodigy Concert Series for gifted youth at the age of 13. He has acquired years of solo experience by winning prestigious music competitions and auditions. He has won numerous awards such as the 2024 Princess Astrid International Music Competition, The 38th Music Association of Korea Competition, The 26th Sung Jung Music Competition (Grand Prize), The 27th KBS KEPCO Music Competition, The 58th Dong-A Music Competiton, Seoul Youth Chamber Music Competition, Art Sylvia Chamber Music Audition, TBC Music Competition, etc.
He has appeared as a soloist with world-renowned orchestras, including Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Rotterdam, North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Szolnok Symphony Orchestra, Kyungbook Symphony Orchestra, Savaria Symphony Orchestra, etc. Also, he has performed at numerous venues worldwide such as Het Concertgebouw, Dvorak Hall, Lincoln Center, Seoul Arts Center, Kumho Art Hall, Samsung Electronics Art Hall, Carnegie Hall, Gyeonggi Arts Center, Hitachi Systems Hall etc.
Every summer, he participates in music festivals, including the Verbier Festival, Toronto Summer Music, Taipei Music Academy and Festival, Domaine Forget Music Academy, and Cambridge International String Academy, and has performed with world-renowned musicians. Also, he has obtained important musical impulses and experiences from violin masterclasses with many world-renowned musicians, including Rodney Friend, György Pauk, Pavel Vernikov, Kyoko Takezawa, Gérard Poulet, Cho-Liang Lin, Koichiro Harada, and Vadim Gluzman as well as chamber music projects.
