Sungmin Cho, a violinist from Seoul, South Korea, recently graduated from The Juilliard School, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees under the guidance of David Chan, Ronald Copes, and Joseph Lin. He is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Cho made his solo debut at the age of 13 through the prestigious Kumho Prodigy Concert Series for gifted young musicians. Since then, he has established himself as a distinguished soloist through numerous competitions and concert appearances. His awards include prizes at the Princess Astrid International Music Competition, Music Association of Korea Competition, Sung Jung Music Competition, KBS KEPCO Music Competition, Dong-A Music Competition, Seoul Youth Chamber Music Competition, Art Sylvia Chamber Music Audition, and TBC Music Competition.
As a soloist, Mr. Cho has performed with internationally acclaimed orchestras including the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Atlantida Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Rotterdam, North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, and Savaria Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared in renowned concert venues around the world, including Het Concertgebouw, National Music Auditorium of Madrid, Rudolfinum Dvořák Hall, Lincoln Center, Seoul Arts Center, Carnegie Hall, Gyeonggi Arts Center, and Hitachi Systems Hall.
An active participant in leading international music festivals, Mr. Cho has performed at the Verbier Festival, Toronto Summer Music Festival, Beethoven Festival, Taipei Music Academy and Festival, Domaine Forget International Festival and Academy, and Cambridge International String Academy. He has also collaborated with distinguished musicians including Maxim Vengerov, Andrew Wan, Anton Sorokow, Rune Bergmann, Christopher Hinterhuber, and Charles Richard-Hamelin.
Mr. Cho has also received valuable artistic guidance through masterclasses and chamber music collaborations with many of the world's leading musicians, including Rodney Friend, György Pauk, Pavel Vernikov, Kyoko Takezawa, Gérard Poulet, Cho-Liang Lin, Koichiro Harada, and Vadim Gluzman.
